What's the 2 most significant challenges that any organization or company is dealing with today?
1. Recruiting & retaining employees
2. Keeping them engaged, effective & productive.
Well, there are a few steps to take when tackling these challenges, such as : IDP, Re/UpSkilling & Personal Branding.
In this article I'll focus on the third element - Personal Branding, or more accurately, EMPLOYEE BRANDING, and show how it has the most impact in dealing with these two challenges.
Take only two years back, and we were in an entirely different eco-system.
Employees were doing what they could to keep their job and have a decent income.
When COVID19 disrupted our world, it brought absolute uncertainty and instability, putting organizations in a strong position with a strong upper hand, enabling them to focus more on their markets and customers than on their employees.
But today reality has changed.
HR specialists, recruiters, founders and even executives are expressing concern and even frustration over an endless race to recruit and retain talents, and keep them engaged, loyal and effective.
Sometimes they don't even finish the onboarding process and they're already on their way to the next company...
So why isn't it enough just putting more money on salary and the "traditional" employee experience factors?
Well, according to a global study by Gartner of nearly 150 HR executives and 3,000 employees worldwide, in 2019 companies spent an average of $2,420 per person on efforts to improve employee experience. The research found that although the companies identified an initial boost in productivity and even retention, the ROI from such initiatives was low: only 13% of the employees reported being really satisfied with their experience.
What does that mean?
That organizations and companies need to invest not only in the workplace experience, but in creating a personal experience for each employee that will make them feel they are personally seen, heard, understood and appreciated for their strengths and for the VALUE they create. It's the whole package that generates engagement and prevents (or at least minimizes) burnout, or creates what we can call - "Employee Wellness".
How do you personalize the experience?
Will offering a personal hybrid work model do the job?
If you want to create an EFFECTIVE personalized employee experience, you need to meet your employees' 'PERSONAL VALUE' need and make them be perceived as they want:
On a very basic level, we all want to feel we create value and have an impact, and we want others to see it. But it doesn't end there.
We want to feel we create value when being the best version of ourselves, using our strengths and skills, AND we want others to see it. When that happens - we're in our ZONE, in our element!
Think about people who actually told you that they LOVE their job, that they wake up joyful every day, eager to start their day. Not just to see their team and drink their morning coffee together, but actually get up every morning excited for another day of their work.
What do they all have in common?
They're in their zone, doing something they're great in, that they feel creates value and that others see and acknowledge it.
So how do you get your employees there??
You give them practical tools to build their own personal and professional brand within the company and organization. You show them how they can authentically control how people perceive and listen to them, how they can bring out their very best version.
AND WHAT DOES YOUR COMPANY GET OUT OF IT?
You may be thinking "why would a company have any interest in giving its employees tools to build their brand? are we not actually contributing to an increase in turnover?"
When you provide the employee tools to fully express their #strengths, #skills and #passsion, you're enabling them to control how they're perceived, listened to, how people see them and as a result, how people work with them.
You're giving them tools to use their strengths and to bring forward their passions and have people around them see it and react accordingly.
By providing employees with #personalbranding tools, you're contributing to their personal development, to their IDP, to their sense of self worth, and on top of it all, to their sense of engagement. They feel they belong, they feel fully self expressed, they feel in their zone.
And what's even greater?
That you also get the best #employeebrandambassadors there are, with each and every one of them.
Employees that feel they're their own best version at their work, will be the first ones to celebrate their company, its success, to share it with others and of course, to recommend it to friends.
